Venture Capital Associate - HealthTech (USA)

About

Newfund is one of the most dynamic seed-stage investment funds, managing $400M in assets under management.

Newfund has had a continuous presence in the United States since 2014. The fund has built a significant portfolio of startups, mainly in technology and healthcare, with around forty US investments today. Newfund also supports many French startups in their US expansion, particularly on go-to-market, sales, and local structuring topics. This long-standing presence has enabled the firm to build a strong network of entrepreneurs, investors, and partners, especially in the Bay Area, in support of portfolio companies and Newfund’s long-term strategy.

Newfund Heka is Newfund’s sector-focused BrainTech fund, investing from early stage to Series A in companies at the intersection of neuroscience and artificial intelligence. The fund supports founders building solutions to address major challenges in brain health. Its portfolio includes AI-Stroke, Diagnoly, Inside Therapeutics, Nurea, Oria Biosciences, Raidium, Reev, and Soihtu DTx.

Job Description

This role is designed for a French PhD, ideally in neuroscience or psychiatry, though not exclusively, who wants hands-on exposure to venture capital and the US startup ecosystem. It offers an immersive, on-the-ground experience in the heart of Silicon Valley, with direct exposure to founders, investors, and key players in the US healthcare system. This is a structured transition role between academic research and investing. It is designed as a key step toward a career in venture capital, entrepreneurship, or healthcare strategy. Visa and relocation support are provided for the right profile.

The core mission is to support Newfund Heka’s braintech startups as they enter and scale in the US market. The objective is to help them find product-market fit within the US healthcare system, structure their go-to-market strategy, and close their first US sales, leveraging Newfund’s network and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Support founders in defining the clinical and business positioning of their solutions for the US market.

  • Work on market access topics. This includes pilots, partnerships, first customers, and early-stage sales.

  • Engage with key stakeholders in the US healthcare system. This includes clinicians, hospitals, payers, insurers, and digital health players.

  • Contribute to Braintech and digital health dealflow. This includes scientific and clinical analysis of opportunities and interaction with the investment team.

  • Support the development of Newfund’s presence and network in the United States

Preferred Experience

  • French PhD in neuroscience or psychiatry. A broader medical or health-related background is a plus.

  • Age range: 26–34.

  • Strong curiosity for venture capital and startups.

  • Strong interest in learning business, sales, and hands-on execution.

  • Ability to step outside the academic framework and learn fast.

  • High level of autonomy, energy, and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Fluent English required.

What you will learn

You will learn how early-stage venture capital works in practice, from sourcing opportunities to investment decision-making. You will see how a scientific innovation becomes a product and then generates revenue, by confronting research with real market constraints. You will gain a deep understanding of the US healthcare system and the reality of healthcare sales in the United States. You will build and activate a high-level professional network in Silicon Valley. Finally, you will transition from academic reasoning to an execution-driven mindset focused on impact and value creation. In the medium term, this role may also offer perspectives for evolution toward an investor role, such as Senior Associate.
